Background

We identified this property as having sound but depleted soil characteristics, on account of being managed by set stocking practices for multiple cycles. The grassland ecosystem was also significantly deteriorated. We designed a significant infrastructure program to introduce key performance metrics around soil health regeneration.

Overview of Completed Work

  • Origination of opportunity
  • Property due-diligence
  • Sought investment scope
  • Infrastructure project management
  • Riparian rejuvenation and cordon
  • Central laneway partitioning 30ha split cells
  • Transfer of 3 paddocks to 16
  • Watercourse flow regulation
  • Perennial pasture improvement program
OpportunityWhat really piqued our interest in this property was the riparian health and water catchment during what was a significant drought event. Project Nurinda provided the opportunity to contribute non-pastoral services and benefits to the ecosystem; namely fundamental water supply and flow regulation, erosion control and pollination. Our key development target was to increase the predominant native black spear grasslands to an improved blend delivering over 3,500kg/dm/ha.

OutcomeThrough our ability to cordon the riparian and introduce key native plants and grasses, we have been able to materially change water regulation and thus enhance the biodiversity within this ecosystem. Our key focus was on perennial pasture improvement due to the linkages back to soil carbon inputs. Perennial pastures have greater carbon inputs than annual pasture species and as such relates greater to our goal of moving the dial in our benchmark assessment matrix for soil health.
Ongoing PartnershipOur capital investment flows through to increase production capability, which then circulates through to our ability to increase the internal rate of return for our partners. We are set to outperform our initial IRR target by a clear margin.

Regenerative Audit Compliance Activities

We maintain a control cell that assists us in our benchmarking basis for normalised natural asset measurements. We implement software platforms such as Maia and Cibo Labs and then cross-reference with our internal in-field data recording systems. We record all in-field and precipitation data on a quarterly basis and then feed these values in to the software integrations to enhance accuracy.

NONAA / Normalised Natural Assets Account Index is a proprietary tool that we have developed to account for opening balance of pastures when normalised for seasonality variance.

NTNAA / Normalised Targeted Natural Assets Account index is a proprietary tool that we have developed to account for our target balance of pastures when normalised for seasonality variances.
